What is white satin moth?

The white satin moth, also known as the Southern armyworm moth or the fall armyworm moth, is a common pest in the southeastern United States. These moths have white or cream-colored wings with a wingspan of about 1.5 inches. The larval stage of the moth is a destructive pest, causing damage to crops such as corn, cotton, and soybeans. The larvae of the white satin moth are known as armyworms, and they feed on the leaves and stems of plants. When they are fully grown, armyworms can measure up to two inches in length and are dark brown or black in color. The white satin moth is most active during the summer months and can be controlled with insecticides or biological control methods.
